Metaullics developed the L-Series Transfer pumps - then perfected them in aluminum plants incorporating many suggestions from operating personnel. This refinement process focused on reliability, high performance, ease-of-use and low maintenance. You can expect effective solutions from these pumps and responsive customer service from Metaullics, the people who designed and support them. |

L-Series transfer pumps retain many
of the advantages of the L-Series circulation and gas injection pumps.
All Metaullics L-series pumps use oversize components, open top construction,
non-clogging impellers, high performance materials, and are designed for
ease of maintenance. Oversize components are used for added strength and
life. The larger impellers also allow them to pump the same volume of metal
at slower speeds than the pumps they replace. Open top construction reduces
the amount of maintenance required and enhances metal flow through the
pump. Metaullics’ patented impellers won’t fill up with rocks and are less
prone to jamming. The shaft and impeller assembly is up to four times stronger
than conventional threaded shafts and impellers. L-Series pumps feature
ZX™ graphite for the best possible oxidation resistance and use high performance
ceramic (HPC) sleeves on the shaft. HPC bearings are used in the base and HPC sleeves can also be specified for the posts. The pinned coupling and
post clamps allow the pumps to be repaired or rebuilt quickly and easily.
L-Series transfer pumps have additional features specific to the riser.
L-Series transfer pump risers have been designed to be easily replaced.
They use a larger I.D. so they are less prone to plug up, and the integral
pipe flange has been beefed up to make a more rigid assembly. The pumps
require a minimum of regular maintenance. Repairs are simple and when the
pump finally does need to be rebuilt, the job is fast and easy and only
the parts that are worn out need to be replaced. |

Metaullics six-barrel impellers are standard on L-Series transfer pumps. These impellers are designed to prevent rock damage while eliminating the need for an inlet grate or baffle plate. A ceramic wear plate on the top of the impeller protects against abrasion from rocks and other solids in the metal. The openings in the top of the impeller serve as the inlet and keep large solids out of the pump. The “windows” of the impeller increase in size as the metal flows through to minimize the risk of blockage or jams. As with all L-Series pumps the threadless design provides the strongest shaft to impeller connection in the industry. |

On L-Series transfer pumps the riser is no longer a structural part of the pump support. This means that it can be removed without disturbing the posts or affecting the pump alignment. To take advantage of this, the riser fits into a socket on the base and is clamped to the motor mount. The riser uses an integral steel sleeve and pipe flange for added strength. The riser can be removed by simply unbolting one clamp. This can even be done while the pump is still in the metal. Installation of a new riser is just as easy. |

The optional Riser Clean-out Tee allows access to the inside of the riser without disassembly of the piping. In some transfer pump applications the inside of the riser may build up with dross or fluxing salts. A build up in the riser reduces and in extreme cases can block the flow of metal from the pump. This material can be very difficult to remove after the pump has cooled down to room temperature. With the clean-out tee the inspection cap can be removed while the pump is still hot and the inside of the riser can be scraped clean. This allows the pump to be fixed quickly and put back into service with minimum of effort and pump downtime. |
| L-Series transfer pump performance is significantly improved over the pumps they are designed to replace. At a speed of 750 RPM and a pumping head of four feet, the L-25T will pump 5,000 pounds of aluminum per minute. This kind of pumping rate means an L-25 will often do the job that used to require an M-30C. |
