Rich Chandler, President of Metaullics and Alan Peel, Managing director of EMP Technologies at the Metaullics head office
Solon, Ohio, USA---September 10, 2001 Metaullics Systems Co., L.P., a leading manufacturer of process equipment and systems for the aluminum and zinc industries, has announced the acquisition of EMP Technologies, Ltd., the U.K. based worldwide leader in high-technology electromagnetic melting and circulation systems for the aluminum industry. EMP was acquired from Granville Baird Capital Partners by Metaullics Systems Holdings, L.L.C. and Metaullics Systems Europe, B.V.
Metaullics Systems is the worldwide leader in electro-mechanical molten metal pumps used for circulating, processing, and transferring molten aluminum, and related systems to efficiently melt light-gauge scrap. Metaullics also supplies systems and materials for filtering and degassing molten aluminum in cast houses, foundries and diecasters.
The systems manufactured and sold by EMP are comprised of a high performance electromagnetic pump to circulate molten aluminum in reverberatory furnaces through a patented chamber, which aids in the melting of light-gauge scrap, such as turnings, crushed sheet, and other difficult-to-submerge materials. This greatly improves the recovery rate normally achieved with such charge materials, and significantly improves the productivity and thermal efficiency of the total furnace system. The unique, high-capacity electromagnetic pump has no moving parts, and has established a reputation for reliability with nearly 40 installations worldwide.
The President of Metaullics, Richard Chandler, commented on the acquisition of EMP: "We are very pleased to add such a fine company and product line to the Metaullics family. Our mission at Metaullics is to partner with customers to improve their operations and profitability by providing high technology, high value products and superior services. EMP's products, and the mission of their fine team, are absolutely consistent with this."
"Combining the best of Metaullics and EMP provides the industry a single source for molten metal circulation and light gauge scrap melting. For instance, for circulating a furnace, depending on the customer's technical and economic requirements, we can provide the EMP electromagnetic-based system, or Metaullics' new Tensor circulation pumps, or the standard L-Series pump. Likewise, for scrap melting, we can provide EMP's standard system, a Tensor-driven LOTUSS system, or an EMP-driven LOTUSS."
EMP Technologies will continue to operate as a semi-autonomous company within the Metaullics family, but will take advantage of Metaullics' regional sales and technical capabilities where appropriate. Alan Peel, Managing Director of EMP, stated of the acquisition, "We are very excited. Both the EMP and the Metaullics teams have excellent applications expertise and industry knowledge, and share the goal of being a valuable partner to our customers. The acquisition will allow our combined teams to draw on their worldwide experience, built up over many decades, of pumping, circulating and melting aluminium, to provide customers the best solution from the widest portfolio of pumping and melting technology available in the market, whether they are looking to upgrade an existing furnace or build a new furnace facility. Our ability to structure the best technical and financing possibilities, while working closely with our customers wherever they may be in the world, has been significantly enhanced, and this will allow our combined companies to continue providing the best solutions, resulting in very rapid payback of capital, and solid financial and operational gains for our customers. The aluminium industry is a global family, and the extended global presence of the new organization, with many regional offices, will allow Metaullics and EMP to provide high quality local support to our customers all over the world."
EMP Technologies, Ltd. will continue to operate from their Burton-on-Trent, U.K. offices. Additional information on the EMP Technologies system is available from their web site: www.emptechnologies.com.
